UL Campus 5.1 km (10-15 min drive)
The players will have self-catering accommodation, having your own room, share cooking, washing, food and little storage facilities. Location is approx. 15-20 mins walk from Tag Arena / Tag Village
Generally you won't be more than 1.5km walking distance from accomm to playing pitches
The area will be and have a village vibe, mini markets, shops, restaurants and laundry facilities along with conference centre.
Nearest airport is Shannon, only 35mins away. There is a local bus going to Limerick City. You can also grab a taxi from outside arrivals direct to the campus. Car rentals as you arrive, if meeting someone, there is only one exit as you depart security, so quite easy to navigate. If you are waiting (timings sync with others) might as well wait in the arrivals concourse bar JJ Ruddles. Next to it is a shop to get some last minute snacks for the campus.
Surprisingly you can order online to your campus apartment by app from the local shops Tesco and SuperValu. It might be a good idea to bring condiments if you plan to cook.(spices)
There are restaurants locally too and options for Pizza. Most importantly there's an option for pre-paid meals to be delivered. You can go direct with a the University or google catering companies local.
Apps include Deliveroo | Just-Eat | Uber Eats
Restaurants
Locke Burger - Some good reviews, premium dry-aged Irish beef, Pennsylvania potato rolls and a secret sauce so good you’ll be back for more. Breakfast Menu Lunch & Dinner Menu Takeaway Menu. Midweek lunch specials €10 (15 min walk from UL campus)
As you can imagine the TRWC23 organisers would like you to respect the public spaces and reframe from any unsocial activates or behaviour. Hence, like other tag tournaments there will be Zero tolerance for alcohol during games. However refreshments are freely available at local watering holes and expect to pay between £4.70-£5.50 for beers.
Like UK/Europe, most places accept all types of cards. There are ATMs on campus.
Castletroy Golf Club is near the UL, a possible walk(2km max). Rathbone is a public course but without club hire. Limerick, Ballyneety (15min drive) and Adare are all within 10 minutes drive of UL. One recommended is Adare Manor Golf. (20min drive)
There is surfing also in a unique spot, if you have your own board. It's next to the famous TRUMP Doonbeg Hotel in Clare about 1hr 15 min drive. Doonbeg GC is quite an attraction, but not necessarily the best course. The course has reasonable fees for drop ins, £110pp after 4pm(twilight hours). No karts available on this course as it's walking(non members). Ballybunion GC is in Kerry about 1hr 30mins away.
Surfing
Great waves with beach break. Further up north along the coast is Lahinch a seaside small town for golf and surf. You can hire surf boards here and it's got some nice shops, pubs and restaurants.
Beaches
Lahinch Beach, Clare
The beach here is beautiful. The prom is lovely, there's (paid) parking directly at the beachfront and there's great amenities like toilets and a playground. The views across to Liscannor are lovely. It's a great beach for surfing, and swimming, but heed the safety warnings. The beach is patrolled by lifeguards during the season. Well worth a visit. 1hr from University of Limerick by car.
Spanish Point
Spanish Point is near the village of Milltown Malbay in County Clare on the west coast of Ireland. The Beach, over a kilometre long, has Blue Flag Status and is suitable for swimming and surfing. It's also famously known where the Spanish Armada crashed in Ireland. 1hr from University.
Kilkee
It’s a great big beach and so safe with the lifeguard on duty. Clean clean sand! Busy on hot days, seating, lovely beach with amazing views. great location, close to shops, bars, restaurants, accommodation. Worth a visit. 1hr 20mins from UL.
Tourist Sites
Cliffs of Moher, probably the most visited tourist attraction, after the Guinness Brewery, is in County Clare about 1hr 30mins away. Visit their website HERE for more info.
Live Music
Limerick has quite a good night life. The first port of call would be Dolan's Bar & Restaurant with live music.
Galway City Races(1hr 15mins)
You don't have to a betting person or into horse racing, but this is a spectacle for sure, the longest horseracing festival in Europe, a great day out for a flutter or entertainment. The TRWC coincides with this festival from Mon July 31st - Sun Aug 6th. More information HERE.
